The short version
- The Riders' Championship adds each rider's points from Grands Prix and Sprints.
- The Teams' Championship combines the points scored by the riders entered for each team.
- The Constructors' Championship compares manufacturers under its own scoring rules.
- A Grand Prix win is worth 25 points; a Sprint win is worth 12.
MotoGP standings are three related tables, not one. Most fans mean the Riders' Championship when they ask who leads, but the teams and constructors tables answer different questions. Race Results keeps each view separate so you can follow the title fight without mixing them together.
How MotoGP riders score points
The top 15 finishers in a Grand Prix score points:
- 1st to 5th: 25, 20, 16, 13, 11 points.
- 6th to 10th: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6 points.
- 11th to 15th: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 point.
The Saturday Sprint awards points to the top nine: 12 for the winner, then 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. That makes a full MotoGP weekend worth as many as 37 points to one rider.
MotoGP's official guide confirms the current championship and Sprint points system. Regulations can change, so use the official rules for disputes and the current season.
What the Riders' Championship shows
The Riders' Championship follows people. Each rider keeps the points they score, even if a replacement ride, injury, or team change affects their season. The rider with the most championship points at the end of the season wins the title.
The gap column is the number of points between a rider and the leader. A gap of 30 means the rider needs to outscore the leader by more than 30 points across the remaining sessions to move ahead. It is not a prediction and does not account for how many points are still available.

What the Teams' Championship shows
The Teams' Championship follows the registered teams. It reflects the points brought home by the riders competing for each team, so a balanced pair can beat a team that relies heavily on one rider.
This table helps answer a different question from the riders table: which garage is getting the strongest combined result? A rider can lead the individual championship while their team trails a rival whose riders score more evenly.
See the current team standings and line-ups for that comparison.
What the Constructors' Championship shows
The Constructors' Championship compares manufacturers such as Ducati, Aprilia, KTM, Honda, and Yamaha rather than individual teams. A manufacturer can supply more than one team, which is why constructor and team standings should not be treated as the same table.
Use the constructor table to understand which bike maker is collecting the strongest results across the season. For the exact points treatment, tie-breaks, replacement entries, and edge cases, defer to the current FIM championship regulations.
Why the three leaders may be different
Imagine the championship's leading rider scores heavily while their teammate has a difficult run. That can put the rider first but leave the team behind a pair of consistent rivals. Meanwhile, the same manufacturer may have several competitive bikes across multiple teams, producing another order in the constructors table.
None of the tables is more correct. They measure different competitors:
- riders measure an individual's season;
- teams measure the combined garage;
- constructors measure the manufacturer.
When are standings updated?
Standings should be read after a points-scoring session has been classified. Results can remain provisional while officials review an incident or technical matter. If a penalty changes the classification, the championship totals can change too.
Race Results refreshes its data as results become available, but the official MotoGP results remain the authority. If a number looks unexpected, compare the session classification before assuming the arithmetic is wrong.
How to follow a title fight
- Check the leader's points and the gap to the nearest rival.
- Count the remaining Grands Prix and Sprints on the MotoGP calendar.
- Remember that the maximum weekend score is 37, but real weekends rarely follow a perfect pattern.
- Watch consistency as well as wins. A non-finish can erase the benefit of several podiums.
- Recheck the table after classifications are final.

Frequently asked questions
How many points does a MotoGP winner get? A Grand Prix winner gets 25 championship points. A Sprint winner gets 12.
Do qualifying positions score MotoGP championship points? Qualifying sets the starting grid but does not itself add Riders' Championship points. Points come from the Sprint and Grand Prix under the current format.
Are team and constructor standings the same? No. A team is a specific entrant and rider line-up. A constructor is the motorcycle manufacturer and may supply several teams.
Can MotoGP standings change after the race? Yes. The published order can change if a penalty or amended classification changes the official result.
